La Forest Rare Books Reading Room UpdateA new rare books/special collections room named after the Honourable Gerard V. La Forest has been built in the Law Library. This room also houses the C. Anne Crocker New Brunswick Legal Heritage Collection. Below, you can view pictures of the completed room, as well as the room during various phases of its construction. March 23, 2012The Grand Opening of the La Forest Rare Books Reading Room and the dediction of the C. Anne Crocker New Brunswick Legal Heritage Collection was held on March 23, 2012. Below are some pictures of the Room on the day of the opening.

November 24, 2011Material is now being moved into the new La Forest Rare Books Reading Room.
October 26, 2011There haven't been many changes since September; we did receive the display cases and we moved in the Lady Dunn Bookcase, which you can see in the pictures below. We are still processing all the material to go in the room, but hopefully we will have some books and other items in the room by the end of November. Once we get the material in the room, we will update this page. Thanks for checking in.

Comfy chairs, with display units against the wall.
The Lady Dunn Bookcase can be seen in the back.
Some display units in the back of the room.
September 5, 2011Main construction is done. As you can see, the shelves, tables, and chairs are all in. We are still waiting for the display cabinets to come in, but they will be here very soon. The next step is to populate the room with books and other materials. During the fall term, we will be working on filling the room. We hope to have the grand opening in January. We will update this page periodically as changes occur during the term. Thanks for checking in.
August 19, 2011The windows are in. Just a bit more to go - the doors, baseboards, some electrical work, a bit more painting, and we are good to go.
August 16, 2011The room looks great. Most of the frames are up, and the painting is almost done. It is very close to being completed.

August 4, 2011We have new lights! After the floor was put in new lights were put up. Things are looking great. Next they will be putting on the final coats of paint, and installing the doors and windows. Then we will be moving in shelves and furniture.

August 3, 2011We have a floor! Last week the floor was put in. This makes the room really come together. It is moving along quite nicely - it will look great once the windows and doors are put in.
Everything had to be moved to the hallway

July 21, 2011We have paint! The room is now being painted, and we think the colours look great. We are really excited to see how this will look when it is done. By the way, due to vacations, the pictures will not be updated for a couple of weeks. But make sure you check back in early August to see what has taken place to date.
July 15, 2011Lots of spackling and sanding going on this week. We are hoping next week that the painting will start. We are pretty excited about how things are looking.
July 8, 2011Ok, so there has been more behind-the scenes working being done. We are getting there, slowly but surely.
Notice something different about this picture?
An air conditioner! This will be the only air conditioned room in the whole building.
And a humidifier!
Lots of leaning going on.
More construction.
The other side of the plastic.
Hmmm, I wonder who that is supervising the work...
Why it's Wolfie! Good job, Wolfie!
June 28 and 29, 2011There has been a lot of behind-the-scenes work done on the room, so again the room doesn't look radically different.
June 21, 2011For the last week the workers have been focusing on electrical and plumbing issues, so the room doesn't look much different from the pictures I took on June 13; however, we know people may be curious as to how things are going, so here are the most recent pictures of the room: Wires and pipes need to be accessed in the hallway by the McAllister Room.
