Some Old Law Admission Exams from the 1890's

 Print this Page

For historical interest, we offer a look at digitized versions of the exams required for admission to the Law Society of New Brunswick in 1894 and 1897!

We express our thanks to Mr. Justice Robert Higgins of the Court of Queen's Bench of New Brunswick in Saint John for donating these rare items to us. Mr. Justice Higgins discovered them in an antique desk in the Queen's Bench Chambers.

We also thank UNB third-year law student Patti Merrigan (LL.B. 2007) who scanned these images.

The identity of the student-at-law who wrote these exams is not known.

You'll be surprised at how much these exams resemble today's NB bar ad exams!
