Wireless networking allows you to use a mobile device such as a laptop, Palm/PDA, or wifi enabled smartphone on the campus network without having to physically plug-in the device to a network drop.
The ITS Communications and Network Services group (CNS)received initial funding in 2006 for UNB's Campus-wide Wireless initiative. Since that time we have worked toward deploying wireless networking in every academic and administrative building on campus. It is expected that all academic buildings will be completed during the 2009/2010 academic year.
The design calls for secure wireless access for members of the UNB community and will replace old generation gear on campus. The wireless network is a shared resource and a complimentary service that is not intended to be a replacement for the wired campus infrastructure in offices, labs, and research areas. As such, we discourage users from running any high bandwidth service on the wireless network.
