Laptop Maintenance

To keep your computer happy and healthy, we recommend that you perform the following maintenance tasks regularly:

1. Apply Windows Updates
   Update your operating system with most recent security patch and keep updating it regularly. Enable automatic updates. If you come across any difficulty then see our laptop support team. To enable automatic updates visit Microsoft Windows support website.
   
   
2. Update your Virus Scan Software Regularly
   If you don't have virus scan software, the University provides Trend Micro Internet Security to you for free. It is available for download from the UNB Help Desk self serve website. More information about computer virus protection is available here.
   
   And once you have contracted a virus on your computer, do the following as soon as possible:
   
   
• Schedule an appointment with our laptop support team and we will try to fix it.
• Quarantine! Do not share any files from your computer with anyone else.
• Run the most recently updated version of the Trend Micro Internet Security software on your hard drive. This software is available for download from the UNB Help Desk self serve page.
• Check UNB Help Desk self serve page for updates or patches for the Trend Micro Internet Security software on a regular basis.
  
  
3. Check for Spyware
   Spyware are programs sneak onto your computer when you are surfing the web. They operate quietly so you don't realize that your computer use is being tracked or that you are being targeted by advertisers. We recommend that you download and run Malwarebytes.
