WinSCP (secure FTP)
WinSCP is a freeware secure FTP (SFTP and SCP) client for Windows. It allows you to transfer files between computers easily and securely:
Click here to download WinSCP from the ITS Help Desk software downloads site. Press the "Save" button to save the file called "winscpXXXsetup.exe" to your computer. Take note of where you save it, as you will need to access the file to install WinSCP.
Installing & Configuring WinSCP
To install WinSCP, press the "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of your Windows desktop and select "Run...". In the window that opens, press the "Browse" button and locate the file called "winscpXXXsetup.exe" that you downloaded in the step above, then press "OK". The following window will appear:

Press Next to continue. You will be asked to agree to the GNU General Public License. Click the first radio button under the license, beside the “I accept the agreement” statement, and press Next to continue:

Now you will be asked to choose a place to install WinSCP. Accept the default location by pressing Next.

Next you will be asked to choose an installation type. Check all check boxes if they are not already checked and then press Next:

Then you will be asked what folder WinSCP shortcuts should be placed into in the Start Menu. Again, accept the default by pressing Next:

The next screen allows you to configure shortcuts. If you would like an icon for WinSCP to appear on your desktop, check the first box. The Quick Launch is a set of small icons beside the Start Menu. If you don't see these on your desktop, then leave "Create a Quick Launch icon" box unchecked. If you would like to be able to upload a file by right-clicking on it and choosing an option from the menu that pops up, then check the box beside "Add upload shortcut to Explorer's 'Send to' context menu". It is recommended that you keep the current selection, and check the check box to create icons in the Quick Launch if you would that option:

Nex you will be asked to choose a user interface style, or how the program should look. For those of you who have used programs such as WS FTP or other FTP programs, you would most likely be more familiar with the first option, the Norton Commander interface. Continue by pressing Next:

The next screen is a summary of everything so far. Simply press Install to begin the installation process:

Now you will see the installation screen. This goes fairly quickly, and there is nothing you need to do here:

The last screen will inform you that setup has completed successfully and will ask you if you want to launch WinSCP right away. If so, leave the box checked. If not, uncheck the box beside "Launch WinSCP" and press the Finish button.
