FREDERICTON

fredericton

Many international students are surprised to discover how small the city of Fredericton is.  Although Fredericton is the capital city of New Brunswick, it is a very quiet city of approximately 55,000 people.  Most business offices in Fredericton close at 5pm (Monday-Friday) and shops are generally only open until 9pm.

How easily you adjust to living in the small city of Fredericton may depend on whether you are from a large city or small town in your home country.  Although some students initially find Fredericton too small, over time the majority of international students discover that it is the ideal place to study - safe, clean, easy to get around, and with the limited number of distractions students find it easier to focus on their studies.

There are four definite seasons in Fredericton.  If you arrive in September, Autumn will be in progress. The days are starting to get cooler. A sweater will be needed in September and a light-weight coat or jacket for the months of October and November, with a hat and gloves. During December, January and February a heavy wind-proof jacket, hat, scarf, gloves and winter boots are needed. The temperatures vary from -3° C to -25° C with cold winds and much snow.

If you arrive during the winter months you will need a very heavy jacket. In March, April, and May a lighter jacket, hat, and waterproof boots will be required.
