Atlantic and Asian Universities have partnered together in a unique project designed to develop conservation at the community level in Asia. Entitled the Community Based Conservation Management Program (CBCM), the group effort has been centered around China and Vietnam. The joint effort has brought together the expertise of St Mary’s University, UNB SJ, Nova Scotia Agricultural College and DalTech’s Center for Water Resources Studies, and three Asian universities – Fujian Agricultural and Forestry University and Xiamen University in China, as well as the Vietnam National University. The project has four stated goals: to develop institutional expertise in ecosystem health and conservation management in China and Vietnam: to establish a network of partner institutions, to facilitate community-oriented field training and applied research, to enhance linkages between universities and communities and to improve public understanding of sustainable use of natural resources in targeted communities.
