Sunflowers

Katelyn has been introduced to a large variety of authors and illustrators.  She has had a wide range of experiences at home and school with artwork and photography.  In viewing artwork, she has had the experiences of offering personal interpretations and has created her own personal versions of famous paintings.   Katelyn's personal response to Van Gogh's Sun Flowers painting is an example of how images and paintings can influence children's work.  Katelyn is exploring with different materials and art techniques in her version of Sun Flower . She began by using pencil to sketch her drawing and then has painted her outlines with warm water colours.   It is clear that she has thoroughly explored Van Gogh's painting before offering her own appropriation. She had also worked extensively with real sunflowers that had been brought into the classroom in mid-September - wonderful, glorious flowers.
