Our
Project
- Also known as the UNB/Bhutan Project, it operates at the University
of New Brunswick and links the faculties of Education, Computer Science, and Engineering to the Ministry of Education in Bhutan. Its main aim is to strengthen Bhutan's educational system through the sustainable development of human resources. We
do this by providing scholarships (see Bhutanese
Scholars) and work attachments (see Short-term
Work Attachments) to Bhutanese educators, and long- and short-term
consultants (see Short-term Advisors)
to Bhutan.
- Dr. Gerald M. Clarke guided the
project from its beginnings in 1985 until August 2000, and Dr. Alan M. Sears served as Director from August 2000 to July 2003. At that time, Dr. John Stewart took over as Project Director until his retirement in December 2007. Dr. David Wagner has been serving as Director since then, guiding
the project and dealing with policy decisions from the Faculty of Education
at UNB. Two full-time Canadian staff carry out the day-to-day management: Kathy Aubin, Assistant Director,
manages the Bhutan Project Office within the Faculty of Education;
Nancy Strickland is the
Field Director and long-term advisor on the Project, managing the
Canadian Cooperation Office (CCO) in Thimphu, Bhutan, on behalf of
UNB and the Canadian High Commision in New Delhi.
