Bhutan
- The small Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan is situated in the Eastern Himalayas
between two of the largest countries in the world - India and China
(See the Map).
Not much larger than Switzerland and with a population of 700,000, it
is more important than its small size suggests, as it sits in one of
the most sensitive positions in the world from both an environmental
and a political perspective.
- Culturally, Bhutan is one of the most interesting places in the world
as it remained closed to the outside world until the 1960's. Since then,
it has maintained a healthy cautiousness as it expands its links with
those beyond its protective mountains. Canada, and New Brunswick in
particular, is very privileged to be a part of this process.
