WHAT CAN I DO WITH A MAJOR IN LANGUAGES AND LINGUISTICS?

Because the world no longer has any boundaries, it becomes crucial to study the languages and cultures of different nations. The study of foreign languages contributes significantly to the improvement of international relations and cross-cultural understanding. Along the same lines, linguistics studies the evolution of these languages, their functioning, and their meanings.

One of the most valuable things you acquire through an Arts degree are transferable skills; skills you can transport from one job to another. These skills are very important and requested by many employers.

Languages and Linguistics graduates acquire transferable skills such as organizing text, formulating, comprehending the command of grammar and vocabulary in different languages, communicating and criticizing ideas, analyzing data and auditory recordings, understanding historical language change, and understanding other cultures. These skills are valuable in different fields like audiology and language pathology, artificial intelligence, teaching, editing and publishing, translating, foreign correspondence, travel industry, import/export companies, international businesses, airports, museums, and provincial and federal government.

The UNB Career Resource Centre, located on the second floor of the C.C. Jones Student Services Centre, contains a number of books and other interesting information on the field of Languages and Linguistics. Don't forget to visit us!
