Spectrum

Welcome to Spectrum, UNB and STU's social, resource and support group for gay, lesbian, bisexual , transgendered, queer and questioning (GLBTQ) students, staff & faculty, as well as GLBTQ persons from the surrounding Fredericton Community and our straight allies (both on and off campus).

As a group, our goal is to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone regardless of sex, sexual orientation, gender and sexual identity gender identity; providing a social outlet for members of the campus GLBTQ community. While our membership consists mainly of UNB and STU GLBTQ students, everyone is welcome to attend our meetings.

CURRENT EVENTS

Networking with the local High Schools' Gay-Straight Alliances: First meeting for this project is moved from tuesday to thursday Jan 24th at 4:15pm (Sexuality Centre) due to inclement weather today, sorry for the late notice and inconvenience: Anyway our aim here is to generate an anti-homophobia network with the local high schools and perhaps the middle schools as well. Spectrum is hoping to be the mentoring body for the GSAs as well as the focal point for generating this program. Further details and meetings will be posted in Jan; join our listserv and/or facebook for updates

Storm/alternative dates: In the event of a storm on a given friday or anything else that might impede us from having a meeting on friday afternoon we have set up an alternative time of 2pm the following saturday. Please pay attention to the website as well as join our listserv and/or facebook group to get the latest updates on meeting statuses so that you are not left in the cold.

Coffee talk: Every saturday at 3pm henceforth at the SUB cafeteria by the Tim Hortons (or after the storm date meeting in the event of a storm on friday), We meet informally for coffee and take an opportunity to get socialize and know one another, generating commraderie and a family of friends.

Next Executive Meeting: Jan 23rd, 4pm at the Sexuality Centre (SUB-203) Again we are implementing our open door policy allowing all spectrum members as well as those considering Spectrum to come! :)

Special Event: Pride week: tentatively scheduled for week of Feb 18th to the 22nd. Come to our regular and/or executive meetings if you have any ideas/suggestions for events that week and/or if you want to volunteer, the more the merrier! :)

Thanks again for all who are attending our meetings! Your continued attendance means a lot to the group. And, of course, we are all looking forward to meeting up again on Jan 18th at 5:30pm! As always the new and improved Spectrum team can not function without continual attendance of GLBTQ and our straight-friends; the more people we have, either by just enjoying the safe space of Spectrum, getting involved with committee work, providing feedback, spreading the word, etc... the better the meetings are!
