UNB UNIVERSITY OF NEW BRUNSWICK AMATEUR RADIO CLUB

73 de VE9UNB

Radio Operator UNB has a proud tradition in amateur radio and a well equipped radio station located within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The station antennas on the roof of Head Hall are visible from across the campus.

Amateur radio (or 'ham' radio) represents a unique hobby activity for anyone with an interest in communications and electronics. Modern amateur radio includes computers, satellites, navigation, telemetry, and virtually every imaginable kind of communications over radio. Club members can build and operate equipment to communicate with other like-minded individuals around the world. The radio callsign 'VE9UNB' identifies our club station in the world of amateur radio.

New members with no background in amateur radio can work to obtain a licence from the Canadian government giving them the right to operate specialized radio equipment, to setup their own radio station at home, and to have their own personal amateur radio callsign.

Radio Operator Students in Electrical and Computer Engineering find that amateur radio provides a unique 'hands-on' experience and a chance to have fun while learning and applying classroom theory. Others with less technical inclinations can enjoy the thrill of operating high technology radio equipment while learning more about the fascinating world of radio communications.

Everyone is welcome! From all the hams at UNB, a hearty 73!! (best wishes)

Anyone with questions about UNB Ham Radio Club activities or about amateur radio in general may contact Professor Tervo (tervo@unb.ca).
