Making it to the NHL

The dream of almost every player on the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds hockey team is to play in the National Hockey League (NHL) and this dream is finally becoming a reality for one player. Star forward, Kevin Henderson impressed scouts and fans alike this year with his spectacular performance on the ice.

Henderson just signed a NHL entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks. He has played with UNB for the last two seasons and during this past season he scored 50 points (19 goals, 31 assists) in 28 games, tops on the team. He also added 28 penalty minutes and finished as a plus-31. Henderson’s 50 points ranked him 5th in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), in regular season scoring.

When Henderson isn’t improving his game, he is studying hard. As a second year BBA student, he is halfway through the program and the entire faculty is proud of his accomplishments, both on and off the ice.

Doug Wilson, San Jose Sharks Executive Vice President and General Manager, had this to say about Henderson, "Kevin will be a great addition to our organization and we are looking forward to continuing his development as a professional hockey player. He's someone who can play in all situations and we commend the job that UNB Head Coach Gardiner MacDougall and his staff have done."
