From Business Students to CEOs

Bob Keleher and Simon Pearn have achieved a lot since they arrived at UNB. They have managed to take what they’ve learned so far in marketing and entrepreneurship classes and apply it to their own business.

This duo created Power Washing Solutions last year after noticing that many homes had vinyl siding that needed to be cleaned. They found a way to clean the homes more effectively and at less cost than the competition.

The two students built up a strong business plan and then entered several business plan competitions over the past year, winning the Griffin’s Den competition in Halifax and the undergraduate track at UNB’s CIBC business plan competition. They also placed 3rd in the BDC Enterprize competition in Halifax and in the top five in the nation at the BDC Enterprize Business Plan Competition in Vancouver.

Both Keleher and Pearn have been mentored by UNB’s International Business & Entrepreneurship Center (IBEC). The center has helped these students and many others to fulfill their entrepreneurial dreams, by providing mentoring and sponsorship support.

"The chance to represent UNB at these competitions was an honour,” commented Keheler. “The experience and advice we got not only proved invaluable in our studies, but in the expansion of our own company as well. We are looking forward to competing for UNB next year, and thank the faculty and staff for their support".

The pair has recently expanded their business into new areas including Saint John and Fredericton, and they have employed UNB students for the summer to help them with the process.

"Bob and Simon are tremendous examples of the best business students at UNB, and their competition results suggest that they are among the best in Canada. They are both very involved with many aspects of student life,” stated Dan Coleman, dean of the faculty of business administration at UNB Fredericton.

"Their business plan demonstrates the elegance of simplicity: they identified a need, built a solid plan, and then executed on the plan. The faculty is very proud of their accomplishments".
