FBA’s Third Annual Business Alumni Speaker Series

The Toronto Alumni Chapter, and Dr. Daniel Coleman, Dean, hosted the faculty of business administration’s third annual UNB Business Alumni Speaker Series and networking reception this past May in downtown Toronto. The event was held in the corporate boardroom of BMO Financial Group.

There are several hundred alumni in the Greater Toronto Area and the Business Alumni Speaker Series is designed to bring them together in a mixer style setting, where they can interact and listen to a short speech on current business trends.

The featured speaker for this event was Jethro Bushenbaum, CA. Jethro graduated from UNB’s BBA program in 1996 and began working at Ernst & Young in Montreal, where he entered the CA program. After successfully completing the program, he wrote the Uniform Final Exam for chartered accountants and won a gold medal by placing first in Canada. Currently, Jethro operates his own accounting practice, “Jethro Bushenbaum, Chartered Accountant,” focusing on tax for individuals and corporations.

Jethro’s speech, entitled “Why people only listen to the wrong accountants: conjectures on why the economy, tax planning and businesses get run into the ground,” was a lively, entertaining and informative talk about a number of examples of "bad advice" he has seen given to businesses. He also spoke about proper practices that could help individuals and businesses avoid bad decisions.

The faculty of business administration would like to extend a special thanks to Carolyn Booth, BMO regional VP for NB and PEI, and a member of the FBA advisory board, for arranging the venue and providing the bar and food. The view of Toronto from the BMO corporate board room and the BMO hospitality could only be described as "breathtaking"!
