Kiev MBAs come to UNB to Graduate

This fall, 22 students graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration’s MBA program in Kiev Ukraine; nine of these students visited UNB to receive their degree here during the fall convocation ceremony held on October 23. This is the first time, since the faculty began offering it’s degree in Kiev in 2005, that students have come to Fredericton to visit the UNB campus. The Faculty offers the UNB MBA degree in Kiev through a partnership with the International Institute of Business (IIB).

Accompanied by Ms. Lena Ruavka, the MBA program manager in Kiev, the nine students who came to UNB to receive their degree are Mr. Assan Yessimkhanov, Ms. Elena Yeskina, Ms. Valeriia Otchenash, Mr. Daniel Thadani, Mr. Vyacheslav Serdyuk, Mr. Alex Matveyev, Ms. Tetyana Khramova, Ms. Tetyana , Pogrebnyak, and Mr. Valentyn Adon'yes.

During their visit the MBA students participated in a number of seminars and workshops delivered by the members of the faculty. These seminars included one on venture creation with Dr. Martin Wielemaker, and one on foreign currency hedging by Dr. Devashis Mitra. Their visit coincided with National Small Business Week, which was being recognized by the Faculty’s International Business and Entrepreneurship Centre (IBEC) with visiting scholar Dr. Reg Litz, a professor of entrepreneurship at the Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba. Students from Kiev attended some of the lectures that Dr. Litz delivered to the Faculty.

UNB’s MBA program in Kiev is delivered over 22 months; while IIB professors teach courses in the first year of the program, UNB business administration professors travel to Kiev to deliver all of the second year courses. There are 20 courses delivered in total with ten UNB professors travelling to Ukraine each year. Courses are taught in an executive style delivery format over a five day period.

A graduation ceremony was held in Kiev on October 4th, in the presence of Canadian Embassy officials, Dr. Dan Coleman (Dean, Faculty of Business Administration), Dr. Andrew Gaudes (Associate Dean International, Faculty of Business Administration), Assad David (Director of International Programs in hte Faculty of Business Adminsitration) and Dr. Alexander Mertens (President, IIB), as well as other IIB executives and Faculty.
