A group of UNB students representing Verify RX, an Information Technology company that provides physicians and pharmacists with real-time support regarding prescriptions, have taken home a number of awards for the company’s business plan.
In 2007 a group consisting of MBA students Edgar Gallibois, Karen Freeman & Robert Morrow took home first prize in the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation Student Entrepreneurship Competition valued at $20,000.
In February 2008 the Verify RX team, this time represented by Business Administration students Gallibois, Morrow, Justin Murray and Matthew Corey, won Canada’s largest business plan competition: Enterprise 2008. Organized by the Business Development Bank of Canada, Enterprise 2008 saw 90 schools attempting to be one of the 12 teams to make it to the national competition in Vancouver, where Verify RX would emerge triumphant. Totaling their awards in the national and regional competitions, the Verify RX team was awarded with $23,000 in prize money.
Based in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Verify RX provides physicians and pharmacists with a real-time decision support solution that enables them to better determine the risk of abuse, allowing valid prescriptions to be processed, while quickly identifying and stopping fraudulent prescriptions and individuals engaged in doctor shopping.
