Programs In Anthropology At UNB

Undergraduate Program Information

Anthropology (the study of humankind) examines our species’ evolutionary history, its global cultural manifestations, and its patterns of social organization.

UNBF's Department of Anthropology offers study in three subfields:

1) Social and Cultural Anthropology: Introduced in ANTH 1001, examines cultural diversity around the world.

2) Archaeology: Introduced in ANTH 1002, ANTH 2303, studies the human past through the materials left behind by people.

3) BioMedical Anthropology: Introduced in ANTH 1002 & ANTH 2502], explores human evolution and biological diversity.

The Department of Anthropology offers a MINOR, MAJOR, HONOURS & MASTERS program. These programs are designed based on a combination of course work in theoretical (Kinship, Economic, Myth & Ritual), ethnographic (South Asia, North America & Latin America) and contemporary issues (Medical Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, Gender & Archaeology)

The Department of Anthropology offers the ARCHAEOLOGY INTERDEPARTMENTAL PROGRAM in conjunction with the Department of Classics & Ancient History.

International Development Studies is also housed within the department.
