About UsTheatre UNB encompasses all of the rich theatrical activity that takes place on the UNB campus, and typically stages five to seven main stage productions annually. UNB students can study and participate in drama on campus through a number of different avenues. The UNB English department offers a B.A. Major in English with a specialization in Drama, as well as a three-year Fine Arts Minor in Drama centering on its second and third year drama production courses, English 2170: Drama Production and English 3170: Advanced Drama Production. Both of theses courses offer hands-on instruction in the essentials of theatrical production: acting, directing, stage management, lighting, sound, wardrobe, properties and publicity. Theatre UNB is also pleased to support our young thespians financially as well as on and off stage. Annual scholarships are awarded to deserving students in our English Major and Drama Minor programs. Students are able to tailor their learning towards those elements of theatre they are most interested in pursuing and also to take the stage in one or more of Theatre UNB's main stage productions each year. In the final year of the Fine Arts Minor, students collaboratively produce and direct their own shows as part of the Theatre UNB season. For students interested in pursuing more than one Fine Arts discipline, UNB's Fine Arts Minor offers a unique opportunity to combine studies in Drama with Music, Visual Art, Film, or Creative Writing. In addition to the main stage productions staged by Fine Arts Minor students and as English 2170 and English 3170 course productions, Stage Left, UNB's undergraduate drama student society, has been staging plays and supporting productions on campus since 1992. Membership in Stage Left and participation in its productions and other activities (including workshops and social activities) is open to all students on campus. |
