ALPS Donates to Local Homeless Shelters

ALPS Donates to Local Homeless Shelters

ALPS made a financial donation to Fredericton’s two Homeless Shelters: Grace House, the Women’s Residence, and the Fredericton Emergency Shelter, the Men’s Residence. Each year ALPS sets aside funds to donate to student organizations on campus as well as organizations in our local community. ALPS recognized the recent publicity in The Daily Gleaner surrounding the lack of funding for Fredericton’s two homeless shelters and wanted to lend a helping hand.

Bill Hall, ALPS VP Finance and Heidi O’Donnell, ALPS past VP Promotions met with Pat Carlson, Executive Director of Fredericton’s Emergency Shelters at her office in the Men’s Residence. They were given a tour of the Men’s residence which consisted of one large room containing many beds and couches as well as a couple of tables with chairs. The shelter is crowded and there is no privacy for its residents, but as Pat pointed out it is protection from the outdoor elements.

For more information about the shelter(s) or to make a donation, you can contact Pat Carlson at shelter@nb.aibn.com or check out their website at http://www.theshelters.ca/
